These new competitors may include sophisticated financial institutions, some of which are already entering the energy trading and marketing sector, and international energy players, which may enter regulated or unregulated energy businesses. Duke Energy Ohio cannot predict the extent and timing of entry by additional competitors into the electric markets. This competition may adversely affect Duke Energy Ohio’s ability to make investments or acquisitions."
