Paul Newman

Frank DeFord of Westport Connecticut, who is exactly my age by the way, just had a piece on NPR on living in the same neighborhood as the beloved Paul Newman. It brought tears to my eyes as he described sitting next to Paul and Joanne Woodward at a local play recently. He happened to see Paul reach over and hold Joanne's hand. DeFord did the same with his wife. "You can never go wrong copying what Paul Neuman did," he said.

Which reminded me that Bob Johnson, the first draft pick of the first Bengals, my neighbor in Glendale, Ohio, moved in with the Cincinnati Bengals 31 years ago. Bob and Jane Johnson are the Paul and Joanne's of Glendale.

Whatever Paul Newman did was good. Whatever Bob Johnson does is good.

One of the joys of living in a world-class, fine, neighborhood.
