Historic Glendale Greenville Group

June 3, 2008 Vol. I, Issue 1

Remember 1997? Here is a beautifully-drawn “Party-Invite” – no, not now! -- from the past, done by Arlene Hoeweler, when we lived two doors north at 885 Greenville, the house that is featured in the Glendale Logo (for what that is worth).

Our family has many great memories of this home of 32 years and many parties. However when the family home at 970 Laurel became available, we decided to move to that one floor home. Now we are faced with two mortgages. (Yeah, we know…)

For the next few days we are “going naked” in the real estate market.

We read the headlines -- “Home Sales Down 14%!” -- Homes in the $150,000-350,000 Range, “Down 27%!” (latter not a headline but contained in Sunday’s New York Times article about Greensboro, N.C.), and last month lowered 885 Greenville to well below the auditor’s appraised value of $352,000. (Gulp!) Without a realtor we wish to realize $305,500.

We intend to sign up with Sibcy Cline shortly, so this low price is not going to last.

Data about the housing market, we all know, draws on what has already happened in the housing market, but we’d ask you and your friends and family to consider: (1) the lower temporary price due to “no realtor;” and (2) the fact that, starting June 1, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, are loosening restrictions on the sorts of loans they’ll buy in many markets. This is a good time to buy a home with a low down payment of 5 percent, or even less.

So if you know of a family or relatives who might be interested in relocating to Glendale, please pass on this information now!

Yours,
Eunie & Bruce Abel

During the selling of 885 Greenville we will be having periodic discussion-meetings at the house on the topic of the coming changes to the selling of real estate, somewhat of the nature of the meeting at the Harry Whiting Brown House last year, but more focused. We will buttress the current furnishings of one round table and four chairs, and will let you know when, if you email us at above.
